CBT focuses on the present and present examples of issues the client is having. We examine these examples in session so we can practice the skills that the client will use outside of session. Then the client reports back on how it goes and we adjust.

It's as simple and as hard as focusing on the present moment. It's common to practice mindfulness for a short period of time because it's actually difficult to focus on the present moment all day every day. And sometimes it might not be beneficial or appropriate to practice mindfulness.
